A duo photography exhibition curated by Leslie Kuo, an independent curator based in Shanghai.
Master architects of envisioned landscapes, artists Lu Jun and Feng Fangyu combine the visual language of China 's past with the modern technologies of photography and digital imaging.
Lu Jun's work takes its cue from one of China 's most famous art forms -- traditional landscape painting. However, rather than using ink on rice paper, Lu Jun captures images of ink flowing through water, a testament to the transient nature of Modern China.
Meanwhile, Feng Fangyu spent a year photographing in more than ten traditional gardens to complete the May Rain series. The subsequent works present scenes of beauty, loss, and recovery; while color and movement pay tribute to the dramatic style of Chinese opera performance, elegant garden settings serve as poised backdrops to thick emotion. Ironically, the focus and desire for perfection demonstrated by both artists has resulted in works that expose humankind's impotence to exert control over our circumstances.
