World acclaimed Israeli artist David Gerstein seeks to expand the limits of two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional sculptures by thinking out of the box. He works primarily with laser cut steels, hand paint them, then layer them to create images of urban landscapes, human activities, and still life compositions.
Gerstein's euphoric, multi-dimensional steel cut-outs reflect the 21st century with irony and certainly with humor. His work is filled with optimistic notion – often depicting cyclists, swimmers, joggers, musicians and etc. The fresh vibrant colors add to the 'joie de vivre' of the scenes.
According to Gerstein, “Painter try to cover and conceal their materials, creating an illusion. While sculptors try to bring their raw materials to life. My work brings steel to life.” |
